What Pains Can Anxiety Cause?

Stomach Pain

One symptom frequently associated with anxiety is abdominal pain. It is recommended that if you experience stomach pain, get a doctor's opinion before ruling it out as anxiety-related.

Chest Pain

Another common symptom of anxiety is chest pain and discomfort. Often other anxiety-related issues, such as tension or tightness, can increase the pain level.

Back Pain

Anxiety can cause muscle tension, which is why chonic lower back pain occurs when someone suffers from anxiety or stress.

Chronic Pain Conditions

Those with anxiety disorders commonly suffer from chronic pain disorders as well. The disorders associated with anxiety are: arthritis, fibromyalgia, migraine and back pain.

The ADAA suggests that good nutrition, regular exercise and sleep management can help symptoms that occur with anxiety and chronic pain disorders. The Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) states that pain can often be an indicator of anxiety. These symptoms can include pains such as headaches, soreness and muscle tension.
